Apple ID may soon be called Apple Account. This is what can be deduced from the information collected by Mac Rumors which cites anonymous sources, and apparently the news would not even be that far away: the name change would be expected for this year, probably on the occasion of the release of iOS 18 (the biggest update for iPhone, says Mark Gurman of Bloomberg) and macOS 15.
The Cupertino company defines Apple IDs as:
” is the account you use to sign in to all Apple services and that allows all your Apple devices to work seamlessly. Once you’re signed in, you can use the App Store, iCloud, iMessage, Apple Music, Apple TV+, and more.”
Of course, the new name will be used in all system applications and on the official website. Apple account already appears on some pages of the official Apple website, for example in the one that describes how to access the various services with the Apple ID. In the chapter on how to log in on the web we read:
“Use your Apple ID to sign in to Apple websites
iCloud: Use iCloud on the go by signing in to iCloud.com with your Apple ID
Apple Account: Manage your Apple ID by signing in on the appleid.apple.com page with your Apple ID.
Same goes for the support page on how to check your Apple account balance, in other cases it refers to managing Apple ID accounts instead. We’ll see if it’s a simple rebranding or if rather with this name change Apple will introduce some new features to the service.
