Baldur’s Gate III will be available on Mac from September 21st

Players who were looking forward to playing Baldur’s Gate III on their Apple machines won’t have to wait much longer, as Larian Studios has announced that the full version of the game will be available on Mac on September 21st.

Until now it had been available for this operating system only in a limited version in early access, the same that until early August had been able to be played on Windows systems.

We are therefore talking about a distribution in which you could only play at the first act of the game and it was not possible to go beyond 25 hours of play. Soon the limit will disappear and it will only be up to us to get to the third act and reach the Moonrise Towers, in addition to all the other secrets of this fantastic title.

Recall that the release on compatible platforms was rather cadenced. The first to be able to enjoy it was that Windows PC starting August 3, then it was the turn of PlayStation 5 earlier this month. For consoles it remains a PlayStation 5 exclusive, but not due to an agreement with Sony Entertainment.

What happened was that Larian Studios failed to overcome a technical hurdle that prevented it from launching the game on Xbox at the same time as the PS5 version. Specifically, Microsoft has rules that require developers to ensure that games released for Series S and Series X have the same functionality, but as far as Baldur’s Gate III is concerned, it has not been possible to offer split-screen gaming functionality on the less powerful console.

After a meeting with Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, the developer obtained permission to release the title for Series S without the split-screen feature, but with support for cross-saving between Steam and the two Xbox consoles. Needless to say, this catch has led to considerable delays in development, so much so that the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate III does not yet have an exact release date. It is rumored that it will arrive by the end of 2023.

And are you already playing it or have you preferred to give in to the temptation of Bethesda with its recent Starfield? Let us know in the comments!
