A step into the future: the triptych smartphone
Just try to picture a smartphone which opens like a book but has one additional page in between. This is the innovation that the triptych foldable smartphone technology which is set to hit the market promises.
The giant Samsung in the race
It is claimed that the South Korean giant Samsung is rumored to be in the process of developing this kind of smartphone. But, “We should not see it next year,” as the paper has it. Analyst Ross Young believes that Samsung could launch the triptych phone early next year which is 2026. While prior leaks indicated that the movie should have been released in 2025, Young does not seem to hold that kind of optimism.
A still virgin market
At the moment, only the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design, a triptych phone, is actually on sale.. It is appealingly designed also here, yet an expensive toy and not very widespread. Currently, Huawei is considered to take a small portion of its share in the international market and is totally restricted to being sold in America. This puts Samsung in a favourable position, or any other company that is lucky to launch the first triptych phone outside China.
Samsung’s infolding design
Apparently, Samsung is not following the same path as Huawei, whose device features a part of its screen cover when folded. Samsung, instead, is reported to use an “infolding design” akin to the Z Fold 6 for which at least the folded configuration offers superior safeguard for all the foldable sections. Unfortunately, as for specifics of this phone, that’s about all we know about it. All we can do is wait to see what Samsung has up their sleeves from this point forward.
