RIDLEY SCOTT AND HIS APPETITE OF CINEMA
Ridley Scott just cannot get enough. The film director from Great Britain is still active at the age of 86 and possibly one or two films a year. This year and the past year only, this director has bestowed upon us House of Gucci (2021), The Last Duel (2021) and Napoleon (2023). Currently, Ridley Scott is shooting a new peplum: The sequel of Gladiator Reply Quite simply, Ridley Scott’s Gladiator 2 would have made money had it been released in cinema theaters. As a successor to the cult film of the year 2000, Gladiator 2 boasts a quite solid-staffed cast, including Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, and Joseph Quinn. A 5 Oscars winning follow-up to his masterpiece that was dedicated to the story of Commodus’ sister, Lucilla and her confrontation with the fearless gladiator Morten; This picture will be a late sequel which is going to be devoted to Lucius – the son of dead Lucilla (Connie Nielsen in Gladiator) and the nephew of evil Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). A young man, who appreciates the profession of Maximus (Russell Crowe) with whom he wants to become like.

Depending on whether Ridley Scott was able to shoot the sequel to Gladiator, some of his licenses could not remain in his hands. Actually, the films that followed Alien (1979) were directed by other directors whereas Blade Runner 2049 (2017) was directed by Denis Villeneuve. A legacy he regrets.

RIDLEY SCOTT CAN ONLY PITY THE FILM
In 1979 and 1982 Ridley Scott directed the Sci-Fi movies Alien and the Eighth Passenger and Blade Runner two of the greatest movies of science fiction international circuit. Two monumental films that defined an entire generation of lovers of this genre, and more broadly the history of the seventh art In the case of Alien it had many films that were continuations of the original. The sequel to the movie, Aliens the Return (1986) was directed by James Cameron, the third installment; Alien 3 (1992) and the final part of the series; Alien the Resurrection (1997) was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. While the two follow up releases to Alien3 were largely forgettable AVP and Alien vets, it wasn’t until Prometheus which was released in 2012 that Ridley Scott returned to helm his own franchise. With regards to the staging, for Blade Runner 2049, a Canadian, Denis Villeneuve was responsible.

Change for which Ridley Scott expresses his sorrow. During an interview with Vanity Fair, Ridley Scott insisted that Gladiator 2 had a special flavor for him, considering the fact that he had not been able to direct the sequels to Alien and Blade Runner:During an interview with Vanity Fair, Ridley Scott insisted that Gladiator 2 had a special flavor for him, considering the fact that he had not been able to direct the sequels to Alien and Blade Runner:

‘I was slow at the start. Meaning, I should have done the sequels of Alien and Blade Runner. Quite plainly we evolve. At that time I did not want to do it again.’ Jim Cameron came along, David Fincher. About Blade Runner I did have regrets though the film was well done by Denis Villeneuve. I am the founder of two franchises. In Hollywood most directors, I suppose especially those of my calibre, ”I was never really offered to do these sequels.” Well, it must hurt that they never asked you to be involved.

But in Prometheus’s time Ridley Scott was trying to claim back his epic. In fact, it is known that at one point Neill Blomkamp, the director of District 9, was to make Alien 5 with Sigourney Weaver. However, the project was effectively run ragged by Ridley Scott who wanted to create an antecedent to the saga with Prometheus. Finally, his license slipped away from him again after two films, since Fede Alvarez was commissioned to direct Alien Romulus and Noah Hawley directed a series called Alien: Neverland. Concerning Blade Runner, this cyberpunk universe will be back in a series ordered by Amazon and based on Denis Villeneuve’s movie. Luckily, Ridley Scott will still be able to comfort himself with Gladiator 2, planned for release on November 13 in theaters.
