Sales of the iPhone 12 have been temporarily blocked in France at the request of the Angence Nationale Des Fréquences, a public body that manages radio frequencies in the country. The analyzes would in fact have detected on the Apple smartphone launched on the market in October 2020 the exceeding of the limit of the specific absorption rate (SAR).
SAR: acronym for Specific Absorption Rate, measures the amount of electromagnetic energy absorbed by the human body exposed to a radiofrequency electromagnetic field (or, in other words, the electromagnetic power dissipated in the sample per unit mass). It is expressed in watts/kg.
The verification of the energy carried by electromagnetic waves absorbed by the human body was recently performed by ANFR on 141 smartphones available on the French market: hence the anomalies of the iPhone 12 for the limb SAR value, or the one recorded when the smartphone is in the hand or in the pocket of the pants. On the other hand, the truncated SAR data was normal, measured when the device is about 5mm from the body (in the jacket pocket or inside a bag).

L’autorità francese ha così richiesto ad Apple una immediata adozione di tutte le misure necessarie per evitare che gli smartphone non conformi vengano immessi sul mercato. Per quanto riguarda le unità di iPhone 12 già vendute, spetterà sempre ad Apple “intraprendere azioni correttive il prima possibile”, nel caso in cui ciò non fosse possibile allora sarà obbligata a ritirarli dal commercio.
Il ministro della transizione digitale e delle telecomunicazioni francese Jean-Noel Barrot ha rivelato che Apple dovrebbe fornire una risposta entro due settimane, auspicabilmente rilasciando un aggiornamento software che risolva il problema. “Se non lo farà , sono pronto ad ordinare un richiamo di tutti gli iPhone 12 in circolazione”, ha confidato a Le Parisien.
