Although there are still about five months to go before the launch of the new iPhone 16 range, of which rumors are progressively increasing, there are already rumors related to some features of the iPhones that will be launched by Apple in 2025, the iPhone 17.
Unlike the upcoming iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, which are expected to retain the same display as the current iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, LTPO panels with Always On Display (always-on display) and ProMotion variable refresh rate up to 120Hz should finally arrive on the low-end iPhone 17s.
The Chinese manufacturer BOE could be one of the suppliers of LPTO screens for the iPhone 17 series, although doubts still remain about the production capacity and the high quality standards required by Apple. BOE was already supposed to supply the Cupertino company with OLED displays for both the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 and the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus, but it failed to do so due to persistent performance issues found in its supply chain.
In a post shared on social media platform X, Ross Young, CEO and analyst at DSCC, said he had received information regarding the display that will be used for the iPhone 17 Plus, a panel that could be “smaller” than the 6.7-inch one used on the iPhone 15 Plus. Young, however, hasn’t revealed the exact diagonal size of this display.
Currently, the iPhone 15 Plus has the same screen size as the iPhone 15 Pro Max. If this rumor turns out to be accurate, a smaller screen could further differentiate the Plus model from the Pro Max model. Recent rumors, we recall, would also point to the possibility that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max displays will be 0.2-inches larger than the current 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch ones and even thinner bezels.
